Murky Traveling

Intently fall off stone wedged steps, quickly
into patient rising and falling plastic for two.
This time we’ll make it to Captain Cook’s monument.
Not stop half-way  like twice before,
my abandoning ship, stranding Dad to toss my mask,
flippers tube supposed to aid air intake. Witnessed
families, diamond-light marked in transparent
greenish Kealekua Blue.
Now murky, low gray ahead, one
surfaced fin, alone.
We made it to the monument
where I became a suction-cupped face
mermaid.

“Maid-of-Honor wants”

Cardinal crimson or
bloodshot burgundy.
Rose is my middle name.
Of course Red is my
favorite flush, Not pink
unless coral. Not preferred
in satin: Chiffon, or nu-Georgette
according to Dessy, will do.
I want dark polish.
I don’t want bows.
I want flip-flops or wedges.
I don’t want a toga.
I want you to be happy,
But
I don’t want a pouf.
I don’t want powder.
I don’t want to distract from
“all about you”

The Jello’s Promise

Half past smokey Spanish promises,
pink chairs and provoking curtains
curse for pulled plugs and parted soil
for weightless waists.
Strokes flecked in circles on empty
wallpaper circles in the
half-hospital,
half-restaurant. Hands clasp
a dim, dull utensil
barely scraping.
(unless radiated,
in a box of waves,
I will continue to dance)
Taunting your jaws
with my bound soul.
